Welcome to FloydDuncan.com!

Since I don't want to insult your intelligence by making this sound like a Madison Avenue work of fiction, I'll stick to the first person—and as close to the facts as I can. Well, maybe I'll exaggerate a little bit.

Being relatively new at writing, there’s not much I can say for myself, other than I have a wonderful family and the best job in the world—I’m a college professor. You can probably guess why I’m enthusiastic about my family, but what’s so great about being a college professor? Consider this. Where else can you spend most of your waking hours surrounded by energetic young minds, eager to absorb your every word? (Maybe "eager" is a bit strong, and maybe I should say, "at least some of your words.")

There’s probably little else I could say for myself were it not for the fact that I've written a fascinating book I'm sure you will want to read. (Strike fascinating—you can be the judge of that.) It is entitled For the Glory of France, and it could change the way you think about the War in Vietnam.

For the Glory of France is historical fiction. It is the story about the Office of Strategic Services (OSS) during World War II. The OSS was the forerunner of the CIA.

Perhaps you’re aware that the OSS played a critical role in Europe during World War II, but did you know that they were also in Indochina, specifically at a place now called Vietnam? It may come as a surprise to many that our presence in Vietnam began during the Second World War. Even more surprising is the fact that there might never have been an American version of the Vietnam War, were it not for blunders we made at the end of World War II. In fact, thirty years of bloody conflict in that small third world country might have been avoided in 1945. Why do I make such an outrageous claim? Take a moment to peruse For the Glory of France pages, and you’ll find out. When you're through, come back and continue reading–I have more!

I've also written another book that should have been published more than a year ago. Without going into the gory details, the publisher and I had some differences, and I am now revising the book. I anticipate it will be published in the spring or summer of 2003.

The book is entitled, The Utopian Prince, and it is quite different from the OSS book. It is a story about one of the most incredible human beings who ever lived. I'm not exaggerating—I'll tell you when I'm about to exaggerate!

The Utopian Prince is the true-life story of Robert Owen, a 19th century cotton spinner who happened to be one of the great humanitarians of all time. If you’re curious, please take a moment to learn more about Robert Owen.

If you’re a real glutton for punishment, you may want to tread further into the About the Author pages. Please beware! If you follow the Who is Floyd Duncan? link, you enter into a space where major exaggeration might occur at any moment. Enter at your own risk!
